The problems that the world currently faces can only be solved in one way: with immediate, effective and lasting solutions that do not compromise the future of economic, social, or natural resources; that is, sustainable solutions. Fortunately, there are people and organizations that are aware of this need, and in addition to offering solutions of this type, they encourage more people to participate in the development of sustainable proposals. Such is the case of BASF in conjunction with the University of the Americas Puebla (UDLAP). This alliance annually launches a call to motivate students to develop sustainable projects that solve current problems through their knowledge and creativity. On November 22, at the facilities of said university, the winners of the BASF – UDLAP Building Sustainable Solutions Award for the 2017 edition were recognized, the call for which was launched last May.
This is the fourth time that this award has been held, which seeks to recognize the research work of students who are studying the last year of their degrees in science and engineering Chinese Thailand Phone Number List related to the areas of water, food, agriculture, energy, pharmacy, nutrition, materials, environment, chemistry, industry and related. In this edition, more than 30 works from students from different universities in the Mexican Republic participated that met all the requirements. At the ceremony, awards were given to the first three places: First place: Marco Antonio Treviño Kauffmann from UDLAP for the project “Solar cells sensitized by organic dye, using titanium dioxide nanomaterials.” Second place: Víctor Daniel Acuña Díaz from the Institute of Higher Studies of Tamaulipas with the project “Development of a prototype for the desalination of seawater using solar energy.
Third place: Andrea Hazel Bollnow Cortes, also from the Institute of Higher Studies of Tamaulipas for her project “Applications of a biosorbent based on the mature stem of the water lily in water decontamination and in the petrochemical industry.” During the event, the President of BASF for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Claus Wünschmann, spoke about sustainability and mentioned some examples of innovations that have been carried out in the company as a sustainable solution for a current or future challenge. BASF works hand in hand with various universities and educational institutions nationwide, supporting initiatives that encourage young people to create sustainable solutions to face current and future challenges.
